A SOCIAL MESSAGE FILM “Wake Up”

Last Sunday was no holiday for the students of St Thomas Academy, M.G.Road, Goregoan (W) as they had to watch an educational film in the morning, especially screened for the students of 10 and 11th standard. The 25 minutes short film “Wake Up” has a social message as most youngsters ruin their life due to certain vices they fall prey to.

Presented by Mr. D.S.M. George, Directed by Mr. Amjad Khan and Produced by Mr. Jayesh Gandhi the film “Wake Up” reveals the story of an aspiring boxer who becomes a victim of drugs and ruins his life. Prior to screening of the film, Principal of ST. Thomas Academy, Fr. Effifenney said “This film is shown with a particular purpose, these days children and students like you want to have lots of fun without realizing its implications. While the parents toil hard to provide fine education to children and take all the pains to make them happy, the children with their peer group are driven towards all types of vices, hence ruin their life and all the hopes and aspirations of the parents are completely shattered. I want you to watch the film carefully and write as what message that you could derive from this film and what have you learnt from it”.

The protagonist of the film as the boxer is played by upcoming model and actor John Reegan. The boxer is determined to make it big as a boxer but his father dissuades him and wants him to continue his family business, The boxer is influenced by his friends and starts consuming drugs and gets addicted to it and destroys his life completely.

Regarding the tragic ending John Reegan says “The ending is deliberately tragic as youngsters should realize that if they get addicted to any vice, it is dangerous, hence this movie proves a lesson for everyone”. John Reegan intends to show this film in major festivals and as an actor he already has some interesting projects lined up including south Indian films.
